a Mano

Restaurant • San Francisco, CA

Modern Italian is one of our favorite concepts to interpret. This architecturally strong building needed powerful details to stand up to the design. The floating wood structure brings the ceiling down and adds an intense energy to the dining room. Custom lights designed by ROY hang in the windows to add a low glow. A few old world touches, like the school chairs and ornate table bases, give the space character and charm. The communal table and bar top were designed after the owner's family "work table" he grew up with, an ode to the artistry of his father's tailoring business in Milan. Weathered wood floors and industrial lighting and shelving give the space a factory sensibility.
