Yonder Escalante

desert RESORT & drive-in • ESCALANTE, UT

Yonder’s designs derive from nostalgia, a longing for the past with all the comforts of a modern experience. The modern architecture created by Anacapa took to the stark background creating the perfect platform for character, charm and minimalistic desert like charm. Mixed roughhewn wood, soft textural leathers and warm rich sandy tones all blend together to create a rustic yet modern design aesthetic. The layers of wood tones, hair on hide and vintage inspired lighting create a warm inviting space to enjoy from the respite of a long day outdoors. The general intention behind each space is that everything is natural, everything is real, everything is authentic. The bathhouses are a perfect place to wash off the day. The outdoor heated showers are a true highlight of the space. The interiors of the bathhouse are southwest camping inspired with exposed copper elements and a soft blend of terracotta and travertine. They evoke the beauty of the natural landscape. The modern shape of the cabins lend themselves to an efficient interior that is softened with leather floors, birch walls and subtle leather details scattered throughout, while soft linen curtains flow in the breeze. The airstreams are a bit more rustic. Stripped aluminum interiors lend to a bold outdoor industrial aesthetic. The furniture is all vintage and inspired by a mid century westward journey of collected elements and inspired finds. The airstreams really tell a story of a past time. Humble yet very comfortable they reveal authentic camping of the 60’s and 70’s just as they were meant to.
