A pivotal restaurant for San Francisco’s mission district finally gets new life breathed into it

Walking into Delfina is a welcoming embrace, built upon its long legacy and big heart to make it better than ever. The redesign of Delfina is a flirtation with Italian architecture, which is known for being warm and spatial, and marries it with the grittiness of the Mission District and casual aesthetic of California. We set out to blend the past and present, incorporating reused items such as the old banquette wood, and pairing them effortlessly with an urban color palette and rich natural textures such as wood and mixed metals. The result is a humble, authentic space that is accessible from day to night with a brand-new bar overlooking 18th street and a new private dining room finished with an arched vaulted ceiling. Together, with the inspiration of the authentic hospitality for which Delfina is renowned, we curated a space that marries the old and new, reflecting the unparalleled experience that co-owners Craig and Annie Stoll have kept alive for nearly 25 years.
