An all-day cafe brings beauty and joy to the fillmore district neighborhood
The beautiful exploration of what it means to bring joy to a neighborhood was the launching off point for this project. Bright and sunny in its name, it was meant to take care of its locals and offer what they need throughout the day. Matthew the chef and owner learned to cook and care for people from his grandparents and this space is a reflection of his upbringing. The international feeling of the materiality and natural finishes was meant to be an expression of his eclectic heritage. Rattan softens and neutralizes a relatively narrow, low-light space. Soft floral wallpaper draws you into the back of the room and balances the masculine energy of the industrial architectural features. Cafe style seating evokes a European confidence to leisure and enjoy the space. Soft, cream plaster is used to add texture and character alongside the dark veined caramel marble and rich espresso zellige tile on the back bar. We addded the curved detailing to the back bar, dining room and window to the back hallway to ground the space in a mediterranean architectural language.
