SPQR

A quick design refresh that subtly elevated a Michelin-starred neighborhood Italian restaurant without changing its flavor.

Some projects required us to set aside our egos to work within spaces that are already beloved. Such was this revered Pacific Heights restaurant which deserved an interior that better set the stage for chef-owner Matthew Accarino’s exquisitely conceived but relatively informal Italian cooking. The objective? To elevate what was already there. Uninspired browns and neutrals were replaced with timeless and iconic emerald green banquettes, rattan seating and the glow of a brass bar face and fixtures. Existing artwork that meant a lot to the owner was reframed in gold and layered with textural wallpaper to make the paintings a true statement. When all was said and done, the shift hit the mark—both inspired and familiar.
